Culture of South Korea
LANGUAGES:- The national and official language spoken in South Korea is Korean. Most of the citizens of South Korea who are under 40years, speaks English frequently and the older generation speaks Japanese.
RELIGIONS FOLLOWED IN SOUTH KOREA:-
Most of the South Koreans i.e., more than 56% of the people do not believe in any religion, 25% believe in Buddhism, 7.9% people believe in Catholicism and remaining people believe in other religions like Confucianism, Cheondoism, Daejongism,
TRADITIONAL WEAR:-
Hanbok is the traditional dress of South Korea. It is used as formal or semi-formal attire during traditional occasions. It is designed with vibrant colours and simple lines with no pockets.
DINING ETIQUETTE:-
- When two or more than two persons are eating together no one should fill their own glass, the other person should fill the glass with water.
- During traditional and family feasts, if we finished the glass of water which was filled by our neighbour , we should refill it and pass it to the person who is sitting right next to us and in the same way we should take the glass of a person who is sitting left to us.
- Only Chopsticks and spoons are used, no knife and fork, while eating.
- while putting down the chopsticks , we should not lie them across the bowl.
- While eating at home, shoes should be removed.
MEETING AND GREETING ETIQUETTE:-
- Bow is the traditional Korean meeting. During their first meeting they usually do shake hand.
- To show more respect, people support their right forearm with the left hand while talking.
- Korean women will not shakehands with western men instead they nod their head slightly . But they may give shakehand to Korean men.
- After the meeting is over, people bow to say good bye.
